Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a TENS unit and a muscle stimulator?
TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) targets nerves to block pain signals and release endorphins for pain relief. EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) targets muscles to cause contractions for strength, recovery, and rehabilitation. Our devices combine both TENS and EMS functions.
How often should I use a therapy TENS unit?
Most people use TENS therapy for 15-30 minute sessions, 1-3 times daily as needed for pain relief. Always follow the device instructions and consult your healthcare provider for chronic conditions. TENS is safe for regular use but should not be used continuously.
Where do I place TENS unit pads for back pain?
For lower back pain, place electrode pads on either side of the spine at the pain site, about 1-2 inches apart. Never place pads directly on the spine. The included placement guide shows optimal positions for different pain areas including back, neck, shoulders, and joints.
Is TENS therapy safe to use at home?
Yes, FDA-cleared TENS units are safe for home use when following instructions. Avoid using on the head, throat, chest (over heart), or during pregnancy without medical guidance. Do not use if you have a pacemaker or other implanted electrical device.
How long does it take for TENS therapy to work?
Many people feel pain relief during or immediately after a TENS session. The electrical stimulation blocks pain signals and triggers endorphin release within minutes. Effects typically last 1-4 hours after treatment, though results vary by individual and condition.
