Most desks run on a plastic power strip with unshielded cords. This dock puts four AC outlets, two USB-A ports and one USB-C port in a grounded metal housing, with a shielded 6-foot cord.
Four outlets share up to 10 amps (1200 watts), and each USB port delivers up to 5V/3.1A. An adjustable clamp mounts it to a standing desk.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does a grounded power strip change what is on my desk?
The metal housing and the shield around the cord are connected to ground, so the electric field from the live conductors drains away instead of radiating into the room. A body-voltage meter can read lower near it than near a plastic strip.
Does it work in an outlet without a ground?
No. The shielding drains through the ground pin of the plug, so an ungrounded outlet gives it nowhere to send the field. A plug-in outlet tester from any hardware store shows whether an outlet is wired correctly.
Does it protect against power surges?
The product details list outlets, USB ratings and a shielded cord. They do not list surge protection, so treat it as a shielded power dock, not a surge protector. For surge protection, see the eShield 9-Outlet Surge Protector.
Do the cords I plug into it get shielded too?
No. The dock and its own cord are shielded. An ordinary cord plugged into it still carries its own field, so pair the dock with shielded power cords for the devices on it.
Who makes it?
