A plugged-in desk lamp is one of the closest electrical objects to your head and hands, and most are plastic around unshielded wiring.

The Jovial is built the other way. The body is all grounded metal, every internal wire is shielded, and the 7-foot cord is shielded too, so the lamp's electric field drains to ground instead of spreading across your desk.

It ships with a GoldyLux 150W halogen bulb, a gold light centered around 588 nm with red and near-infrared output. That is a much brighter bulb than the 40 to 60 watt bulbs in typical desk lamps, and the pivoting arm and counterbalanced shade put the light where you work.

Any incandescent or halogen bulb up to 150W fits, or a low-flicker LED.

All-metal body, grounded

Shielded internal wiring

Shielded 7-foot power cord

Pivoting arm with a counterbalanced, pivoting shade

Switch on top of the shade

Includes a GoldyLux 150W R125 halogen bulb

Gold light around 588 nm, plus red and near-infrared

Color temperature about 2200K

Accepts incandescent or halogen bulbs up to 150W, or a low-flicker LED

UL listed, in black or white

Plug the lamp into a properly grounded wall outlet. The grounded body and shielding drain through the ground pin, so they depend on it. A plug-in outlet tester from any hardware store will confirm the outlet is wired correctly. Move the arm and tilt the shade to aim the light at your work. The switch is on top of the shade. Keep the front of the shade at least 8 inches from anything on your desk. A 150W halogen runs hot. Turn the lamp off when you leave the room. If you change the bulb, stay at or under 150 watts. Built for North American outlets (US and Canada): it uses a standard grounded three-prong US plug and is not designed for 230V outlets or other plug types.

Most desk lamps are plastic around unshielded wiring. The Jovial has a grounded all-metal body, shielded internal wiring and a shielded 7-foot cord, plus a pivoting arm and counterbalanced shade.

It includes a GoldyLux 150W R125 halogen bulb and takes bulbs up to 150W. UL listed, in black or white.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the shielding on a lamp do?
The metal body, the internal wiring shield and the cord shield are all grounded, so the electric field from the lamp's live conductors drains to ground. A body-voltage meter can read lower near it than near a plastic lamp.
Does the lamp get hot?
Yes. A 150W halogen runs hot, like a heat lamp. Keep the front of the shade at least 8 inches from anything on your desk and turn the lamp off when you leave the room.
Which bulbs can I use?
The included GoldyLux is a 150W R125 halogen with a rated life of 1,000 to 2,000 hours. The lamp also takes any incandescent or halogen bulb up to 150W, or a low-flicker LED.
Does it need a grounded outlet?
Yes. The grounded body and shielding drain through the plug's ground pin, so an ungrounded outlet gives them nowhere to send the field. A plug-in outlet tester shows whether an outlet is wired correctly.
Who makes it?
ElectraHealth, founded in 2008 by Shaun Kranish and owned since 2025 by Brian Hoyer, founder of Shielded Healing and The Shielding Shop.
