Shielded Ethernet cable only does half its job on its own. The foil shield blocks radio-frequency interference either way, but keeping 60Hz AC from conducting onto the cable takes a grounded shield, and most laptops, routers, modems and switches don't ground it through their Ethernet port.

This kit grounds the shield. The adapter sits between your device and your main Ethernet run, and its grounding cord plugs into a grounded wall outlet. It can also ground the device it's connected to, which lowers the contact current you pick up from an ungrounded laptop running on its charger.

It works with shielded Cat6, Cat7 and Cat8 cable. ElectraHealth handmakes each kit in the USA with soldered connections.

Grounds the shield on shielded Cat6, Cat7 and Cat8 Ethernet cable

Keeps 60Hz AC from conducting onto the cable shield

Can also ground the connected device, such as a laptop, router or switch

Made for devices whose Ethernet port provides no ground

CAT6A-rated grounding adapter

Includes a short shielded Cat6 patch cable and an 11-foot grounding cord with a 3-prong plug

Bi-directional, so it connects in either direction

ElectraHealth reports no loss of speed on gigabit connections

Soldered connections, individually handmade in the USA

White or black

Check that your Ethernet cable is shielded Cat6, Cat7 or Cat8. Cat5 and unshielded Cat6 have no shield to ground, so the kit won't work with them. Plug the short shielded patch cable into your device's Ethernet port. Plug the other end of the patch cable into the grounding adapter. Run your main Ethernet cable from the adapter's open port to your router, switch or next device. Plug the grounding cord into a grounded wall outlet. A plug-in outlet tester from any hardware store confirms the outlet is grounded. The adapter is bi-directional, so you can set it up in whichever order suits your space. Desktop computers with a grounded 3-prong power cord are already grounded through the outlet and don't need the kit. The grounding cord has a standard US three-prong plug and connects only to the outlet's ground. Outside the US and Canada, use a plug adapter that keeps the ground pin connected.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need this if my Ethernet cable is already shielded?
The shield blocks radio-frequency interference on its own, but it only keeps 60Hz AC from conducting onto the cable when it is grounded. Most laptops, routers, modems and switches don't ground the shield through their Ethernet port. This kit does.
Which cables does it work with?
Shielded Cat6, Cat7 and Cat8. Cat7 and Cat8 are always shielded, while Cat6 comes both ways, so check your cable's jacket or listing. Cat5 and unshielded Cat6 have no shield to ground.
Will it slow down my internet connection?
ElectraHealth reports no loss of speed on gigabit connections. It has not published results at higher speeds yet.
Does it work in an outlet without a ground?
No. The grounding cord drains through the outlet's ground pin, so an ungrounded outlet gives it nowhere to go. A plug-in outlet tester from any hardware store shows whether an outlet is grounded.
Who makes it?
ElectraHealth, founded in 2008 by Shaun Kranish and owned since 2025 by Brian Hoyer, founder of Shielded Healing and The Shielding Shop.
