Standard USB chargers and AC adapters put a 60 Hz electric field onto the cable and the device you are charging.

The Basic Grounded Charger gives USB devices a grounded DC power path. It drains induced voltage from the USB cable to ground, which reduces the 60 Hz electric field at the cable and the connected device.

It also passes power through: three grounded AC outlets (NEMA 5-15R) and three grounded 5V USB ports that share 12 watts in total. That makes it a fit for phones, tablets, headlamps and other low-power 5V devices.

Charging is slower than with a high-wattage charger, as expected from a grounded, reduced-field path. For laptops, see the SafeCharger line.

Three grounded AC outlets (NEMA 5-15R)

Three grounded USB output ports at 5V

12 watts total, shared across all USB ports

Drains induced voltage from USB cables to ground

Reduces 60 Hz electric field at the cable and the connected device

Takes one wall outlet and gives you three AC outlets back

Made for phones, tablets, headlamps and other 5V USB devices

Charges more slowly than high-wattage chargers

Not a surge protector

Black or white

Plug the charger into a properly grounded wall outlet. Its grounding works through the ground pin, so an ungrounded outlet gives it nothing to drain to. A plug-in outlet tester from any hardware store will confirm the outlet is wired correctly. One AC outlet powers the unit, and the three grounded AC outlets on the charger are yours to use. Connect phones, tablets and other 5V USB devices to the USB ports. Keep the total USB load within 12 watts. For laptops, use the SafeCharger Hub 45 or UltraMac 63. Built for North American outlets (US and Canada): it uses a standard grounded three-prong US plug and is not designed for 230V outlets or other plug types.

About ElectraHealth

Standard USB chargers put a 60 Hz electric field onto the cable and device. This charger drains induced voltage from the USB cable to ground, with three grounded AC outlets and three grounded 5V USB ports.

The USB ports share 12 watts in total, so it suits phones, tablets and headlamps. It is not a surge protector. Black or white.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does it charge more slowly than my usual charger?
The three USB ports share 12 watts in total, and the unit is built around a grounded, reduced-field charging path. Slower charging is expected, not a defect.
Can I charge a laptop with it?
No. It is made for low-power 5V USB devices such as phones, tablets and headlamps. For laptops, see the SafeCharger Hub 45 (up to 45 watts) or UltraMac 63 (up to 63 watts).
Is it a surge protector?
No. It is a grounded charger with three AC pass-through outlets, and it is not designed as a surge protector. For surge protection, see the eShield 9-Outlet Surge Protector.
Does it work in an outlet without a ground?
No. The shielding drains through the ground pin of the plug, so an ungrounded outlet gives it nowhere to send the field. A plug-in outlet tester from any hardware store shows whether an outlet is wired correctly.
Who makes it?
ElectraHealth, founded in 2008 by Shaun Kranish and owned since 2025 by Brian Hoyer, founder of Shielded Healing and The Shielding Shop.
